Welcome to another Weekly Wrap from Wejo.
This week there’s no other place to start than with the brilliant news that Microsoft, one of the world’s most renowned technology companies, has signed with Wejo as a customer. This is an expansion of our previously announced collaboration with the household name that we will build our suite of data and intelligence solutions on the Microsoft Azure cloud platform. More than anything, we believe that this is a clear endorsement of our product and validation of the incredible efforts of the whole Wejo team.
So what will Microsoft be doing with Wejo data? To begin with, they will be using Wejo’s real-time mapping and traffic data and integrating it with their mapping services to enhance the accuracy, safety and efficiency of their location services for the US and Europe. This will enable their Microsoft Azure Maps and Bing Maps services to adapt faster to new roads, routes, journey times, and travel disruption, using real-time data. Wejo collects more than 16 billion data points on a daily basis from over 11 million live connected vehicles, and these insights will support improved smart city applications and the visualization of pertinent information for map users.
For us, this is another step on our journey of using data for good. Our vision, to transform the way connected vehicle data is utilized and distributed, is only further validated by our partnership with Microsoft and I’m proud of all the team that are driving us further on this journey. You can find the full information on the Microsoft partnership here.
In other news this week, Wejo featured in an article on the International Business Times website about how data is leading the development of electric vehicle infrastructure. The electric vehicle industry is really starting to gain traction now and the more people that use electric vehicles, the more insight we have into how they are used. This article focuses on how Wejo’s connected vehicle data is able to identify electric vehicles specifically and build a picture of how they are being used. In turn, this can shape the necessary development of charging infrastructure that will enable the faster uptake of electric vehicles. Check out the article for yourself here.
Finally, I wanted to catch up on the great work of the Wejo team at last week’s ITS Hamburg event. Around 400 visitors to the booth were shown demos of our platforms and the team reported some exceptional conversations. More than that, with the event being better attended than expected, the team were also delighted to meet so many contacts in person, either for the first time or the first time since the pandemic started. As we continue to expand into Europe, events like these are a great way to make new contacts and demonstrate live the amazing insights that our products offer, and of course with the launch of Wejo Studio, they’re now more accessible than ever to a more diverse range of organizations.
That’s all for this week. Next week we’ll be busy again on the filming front in our Manchester offices and also with some exciting cars with one of our partners. We’ll see you next week with another Wejo Weekly Wrap.
