Word from Richard

Hey everyone, thank you once again for tuning into our weekly-wrap up – what a week it’s been!

Wejo has been represented at two of the largest virtual events in the tech and mobility sectors; with Daniel, our Director of Science Analytics, speaking at Move America 2021 whilst I was delighted to be invited to launch this year’s esteemed Tech Nation’s Report.

Internally, we’ve been working as hard as ever, and I’m pleased to announce some exciting news, we’ve appointed John Maxwell as our Group CFO. He replaces Barry Nightingale who’s been a savvy financial leader and sage business counsellor through some of our most critical moments of growth, and I’m grateful for all he has done to get Wejo to this inflection point. He leaves big shoes for John to fill, but I have every confidence the company will remain on strong financial footing in the months and years ahead under his leadership.

Elsewhere we’ve really appreciated seeing how well our new content has been received, as we continue to lift the lid on the exciting business and industry we’re proud to be a part of. Don’t worry, there’s plenty more to come!

Read on below for more details on some of the things myself and the team has been up to and I’ll check back in with you next week on the #wejourney.

Wejo Shmee150

Shmee150 x Wejo

We released our second collaboration with Tim Burton, aka Shmee150 on YouTube last Friday, where he sat down with Richard, to catch up on all things Wejo and connected vehicle data.

The pair first met in 2014, so we loved watching two friends catch up on recent developments at Wejo, as well as discussing their visions for the future of cars and connected vehicles. It was great to see Tim diving into the tech-side of cars, showing off his deep knowledge and interest in connected vehicles.

It’s a really great video that anybody interested in learning more about Wejo and connected vehicle data should watch – especially if you’re one of Shmee’s millions of fans!

Wejo at Tech Nation

Tech Nation Report 2021 Launch

Richard was one of the keynote speakers invited to launch the latest edition of Tech Nation’s prestigious report, which is viewed as the number one analysis of the UK’s tech industry.

Forewords were provided by the UK’s Prime Minister, The Rt Hon Boris Johnson MP, as well as by Oliver Dowden CBE MP, Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport. We then heard from some of the UK’s tech leaders, including Anne Boden of Starling Bank and Louise O’Shea of Confused.com.

Richard was one of the keynote speakers discussing the topic of “a future we want to live in” where he explained how Wejo is helping to shape a better future for not only drivers, but for everybody, through safer, cleaner, more efficient mobility.

Wejo at MOVE America

Move2021

Daniel Tibble, our Director of Data Science and Analytics, yesterday hosted a roundtable discussion at MOVE America 2021, the world’s largest mobility event.

For the roundtable, centered around getting the most out of smart traffic management, Daniel was joined by Directors of transport, mobility and infrastructure from three cities, as well as the Editor of Cities Today.

Daniel and the panel discussed in-depth how connected vehicle data unlocks opportunity across the mobility ecosystem and city planning by providing rich, reliable and accurate data to inform planning decisions.

Wejo’s position as market leader was also touched on, most notably regarding how Wejo provides access to the world’s largest connected vehicle set. This then understandably led to questions about security and privacy concerns, which Daniel was proud to be able to address with the fact that Wejo’s data is anonymous, aggregated and extremely secure.

It was great to have taken part and led an important discussion at the hallmark event of the mobility calendar, and we look forward to Move America 2022!

Behind the scenes

Behind-the-scenes of something different

This week we’ve been teasing some content we’ve been shooting that we think you’re really going to like.

You may have seen Richard in the behind-the-scenes clips on our Instagram, as we decided to show off a different side of Wejo. As a large business in an important market, it’s all too easy to forget to find time for a bit of fun. We decided to change that with this series, to make you smile whilst talking about more of the amazing things that can happen in a Wejo world

So, keep your eyes on our Instagram and YouTube channel, as you won’t want to miss it!

John Maxwell

Appointment of John Maxwell as Group CFO

As one door closes, another door opens. This week, we say thank you and goodbye to Barry Nightingale, who has been our group CFO since 2018 and overseen a period of growth from early-stage tech start-up to global connected vehicle data leader. Barry will be retiring, and we wish him all the best with this new chapter.

He is leaving us in the more-than-safe hands of John Maxwell, a veteran of leading high-growth, large businesses like Wejo. We couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome him onboard for the exciting next phase of Wejo’s story. John has led a variety of both public and large private businesses in the tech sector, most recently he was CFO of Aquestive Therapeutics.

More information on John’s appointment and stellar career to date can be found here.
