Our vision, investor information and leadership team profiles
Wejo has come a very long way over the last few years, it’s been quite the journey. From our humble beginnings in a small office above a Greek restaurant in Manchester, to being trusted by automotive manufacturers around the world. We have always striven to use connected vehicle data for good, with innovative products that will transform the way we live, work and travel for the better.
This belief has resonated with innovative thinkers and companies around the world who see Wejo as a reputable partner and an attractive investment opportunity. Today I’m proud to announce two more strategic partners and investors in Wejo, further strengthening Wejo’s position as a leader in connected vehicle data and the future of the automotive industry.
One of these new strategic partners is none other than Microsoft, a company we all know, which just last week became only the second US business ever to reach a market cap of $2 trillion. It goes without saying that the power, security and privacy of Microsoft Azure, plus the depth and breadth of Wejo’s connected vehicle data – over 10 trillion data points – will enable us to build ground-breaking solutions for customers, auto-makers and drivers alike on a global scale. This partnership will also enable Wejo to leverage their leading-edge capabilities in machine learning and artificial intelligence, bringing new innovative services to the connected vehicle marketplace.
The second new strategic partner we are announcing today is Sompo, a Japanese-based, leading global specialty provider of property and casualty insurance and reinsurance. Sompo is also close partner of Palantir, one of our other recently announced strategic partners and investors. Together, Sompo, Wejo and Palantir aim to leverage the power of Palantir Foundry for advanced big data analytics, which will accelerate the delivery of digital insurance products and more.
With Microsoft, Sompo and Palantir alongside us, Wejo can go faster, further, fulfilling our vision to bring connected vehicle data into all of our lives, making roads safer, reducing emissions and creating fantastic experiences for drivers.
This concludes our PIPE investment process and confirms that we have raised $125m in connection with the proposed business combination to fund our growth. In addition to the $230m raised from the Virtuoso SPAC, we expect gross proceeds of $355m upon consummation of the business combination, assuming no redemptions by Virtuoso’s public stockholders.
For me, it’s a very proud day. Additional global leaders in their respective fields have backed my vision to use connected vehicle data for good across the globe. When we announced our intention to merge with Virtuoso Acquisition Corp and trade publicly, we said we have exciting plans for the future and we were truthful. This is just the beginning.
