Wejo, the leading connected car data pioneer, announces that it is collaborating with Hyundai Motor Group (“Hyundai”) to harness connected car data to transform the driving experience.
Hyundai is focused on innovating with data and technology to minimise the environmental impact of driving, increase driver safety and improve the personal transportation experience. This aligns with Wejo’s vision of creating smarter, safer and more sustainable journeys for all.
The project will initially focus on high-precision data analysis and modelling, using Wejo’s cutting-edge data science and analytics capabilities. The shared vision of both Wejo and Hyundai is to leverage this research to create innovative driver-focused services for Hyundai owners, such as on-demand parking, EV charging, and fleet management.
This is the first collaboration between Wejo and Hyundai, a leading global vehicle manufacturing group which sold over four million Hyundai, Kia and Genesis vehicles in 2019. Hyundai announced in October 2019 that it plans to spend $35 billion over the next five years on self-driving and alternative mobility ventures as part of a larger South Korean initiative to commercialise autonomous transport fleets before any other country. Hyundai’s investment will cover driverless, connected, and electric vehicles which will be available in ride-sharing networks.
Commenting on today’s announcement, Richard Barlow, CEO of Wejo, said: “It’s great to be working with Hyundai who are so focused on providing the world with innovative mobility solutions and this marks another major milestone for Wejo. There are so many benefits to drivers and wider society from utilising connected car data and we are really excited by what lies ahead.”
