The Transportation Research Board’s Road Weather Committee has a primary goal of minimizing the impacts of weather on the surface transportation system, especially with respect to safety and mobility. This resonates with Wejo’s ambitions to revolutionize the way we live, work and travel by using data for good, so we were thrilled to be invited to speak as the experts on Connected Vehicle Data (CVD) at a panel discussing how data can be used to support transportation optimization.

National Academies hosted the panel and it was led by Paul Pisano, the chair of the Road Weather Committee and David Johnson, Federal Highways Administration (FHWA). Pisano and Johnson were joined by Wejo’s CVD expert, Jaap Van Den Hoek, NIRA Dynamic's Pavement slickness representative, Björn Zachrisson and Tina Greenfield of Iowa Department of Transport to discuss, How is data being used to support transportation optimization?

Watch the on-demand webinar to learn about:

  • Different data types including Traditional RWIS/ESS, mobile sources with added RWIS sensors, crowdsourced data and CVD
  • The differences in data types, coverage and usage
  • Data collection and processing
  • Road weather observations
