Head of Product Category

The purpose of the Head of Product Category role is to manage one or more wejo propositions as part of a wider portfolio of products and services. The role requires a deep understanding of data monetisation, customer challenges, commercial drivers and trends within relevant markets. The Head of Product Category is accountable for developing and managing relevant, compelling, differentiated offerings that are market competitive and achieve financial objectives. The Head of Product Category is also responsible for ensuring the end-to-end commercial and service delivery processes are in place so that propositions are 'buyable' and 'deliverable'. The Head of Product Category will manage multiple propositions across all sides of the wejo value exchange, and act as a central subject matter expert throughout the business.

Key responsibilities

  • Shared and joint ownership of the financial performance of the proposition(s) - revenue, growth and profitability
  • Own the entire lifecycle of the propositions(s) from concept to demise
  • Lead the definition of the proposition(s), through understanding customer needs and market opportunities, underpinned by relevant technology, service and legal requirements
  • Own the development and management of the proposition, prioritising features and capabilities according to market and commercial opportunities
  • Work with the Head of Strategy and Innovation to ensure the proposition strategy, plans and roadmap are clearly aligned with business strategies and governance processes
  • Champion the propositions(s), its value proposition and its business objectives
  • Be the expert on the relevant market(s), use cases and competitors to enable competitive positioning and market-based pricing
  • Provide clarity on market and industry segmentation, targets and priorities with articulation of customer needs and drivers that demonstrate why the offering(s) is market and customer relevant
  • Identify and work with partner(s) to ensure a compelling joint value proposition to customers, including managing joint marketing programmes and partner marketing funds
  • Engage and enable the commercial team in creating all required collateral for both internal and external use
  • Work with Marketing to define and attend/run relevant external events and campaigns
  • Support PR activities to raise the profile of the offering(s)

Key performance indicators

  • Performance measures include the following:
  • Revenue and profitability of the propositions(s), including pipeline growth
  • Demonstrating uniqueness and differentiation versus competition
  • Proposition roadmap(s) that underpins strategic growth plan
  • Completeness and maintenance of proposition deliverables, including all mandatory assets and compliance with business standards
  • Achievement of business case objectives for new propositions
  • Proposition launches, to ensure deadlines, release dates and deliverables are met
  • Public relations - to support positive coverage for the proposition(s) in market
  • Case studies - to ensure case studies are created to improve references for the service
  • External (market, analyst, customer) recognition and increased profile of the proposition(s), aligned with business goals
  • Customer engagement in early stages of commercial lifecycle - improving win rate and reducing cost to bid/conversion timescales
  • Customer feedback and customer satisfaction


  • The Head of Product Category will manage a group of related propositions across all sides of the wejo value exchange and internal enablers/capabilities
  • To be effective in this role, the Head of Product Category will need a broad range of effective relationships inside and outside of the business (e.g. analysts, customers)
  • The role will be influential in shaping product and service design capability, and informing the business strategy

  • Ability to articulate offering from a business perspective to senior customer stakeholders and internal teams

  • An understanding of the proposition lifecycle

  • Practical project management capability, to help manage a new offering to launch
